A wise saying
Niky just like Jesse? or Me?
Since he came home from Russia in 2005, everyone has marvelled at how much he resembles Jesse. They have a bond that goes deeper than looks.
Yesterday we got out some old toys that are now new again. I inserted the batteries and Nik NIk spent the entire day yesterday (and already this morning) playing both toys’ music simultaneously. It’s a cacophony of children’s music juxtaposed in a seemingly haphazard way. I can’t even be annoyed (unless I’m on the phone to mom, then I took them away) because all I can think is, “this is how my oldest played” all those years ago.
I can totally understand how fascinated he is with playing both at the same time. Maybe that's only because of Jesse or MAYBE it's because I was the same way. Maybe he’ll be a drummer (taking after Uncle Ed, whom has forever looked the same... gotta love the kind of Humperdink/Elvis uber-cool look. Maybe he’ll just be another music loving guy, or maybe interested in the minute details of engine sounds. It doesn’t matter, all that matters now is that he’s immensely enjoying sounds and all forms of music. That pleases me "to no end", even though the tired old lady in me doesn’t like to hear that noise over and over and over and over and over and over. It is eminently impossible not to smile with glee.

Yeah, beaches and surf!
Maxim loved the beach in Cape Canaveral. He has gone back and forth in a love/hate relationship with the beach. Woah.... I guess he was awashed in the full-moon. He tumbled, he rumbled, he rolled, he laughed......he was glorious.

Birthdays
Alexi had a birthday on March 8th. Jesse's birthday was the 13th. In all of my parental wisdom... I thought "ahh, how great full moon and a Space Shuttle launch. The date perfect.... right between the boys birthdays. So we drive, more like caravan with a couple of other families (friends of the kids) over to Cape Canaveral.
Perfect weather, great place to stay (cheap), lots of kids around and many activities. The boys all love the ocean anyway. Jesse and Ryan (Jesse's best friend) and Ron (Ryans dad) have their surfboards, the littles all have sand toys and water gear. We've read and painted and talked about the moon, space travel and astronauts..... READY! Alas, a hydrogen leak.... come-on, NO. :( Boo. No lift-off, at least not Wednesday, not the night of the full-moon. Not till Sunday... but that's OK.
Amazing and awesome in it's earth-shaking, awe-inspiring presence. The entire experience, the facility are well worth a trip. The lighthouse and beach are beautiful, clean and uncrowded.
Alexi’s obsession with rockets is on fire now. He now wants to watch YouTube videos of rocket launches; I showed him ONE, really just ONE. Alexi loves the part.....with the countdown, firing, and announcement “we have a liftoff!”. He both signs and attempts to say "LIFTOFF". It's just so darn cute.
Jesse has had a fascination with the moon and stars since he was a baby and has shared this with his brothers, especially full moons. On the coast in Florida, in a small town, the sky is so clear that stars are brilliant.
Perhaps Alexi will be the first astronaut with Down syndrome :)
One thing is clear... we need more books on space, rockets, the space shuttle, astronauts, etc.

5. Whether or not you would be willing to ship the afghan out of your country of residence
The handmade blanket is going to ship out to families who have a family member with Down Syndrome. The family member can be of any age, from birth through the senior years. The family can also be located anywhere on the globe.
The afghan will travel from one family to another, along with a journal.
Each family, upon receiving the afghan, takes a picture of their little one with it and we post it on a "T21 Travelling Afghan" page. After having the afghan for bit, the family writes a note in the journal and sends it off to the next family,who's address I will email to them.
